LNLS/Hercules – Latin American Edition
HERCULES (Higher European Research Course for Users of Large Experimental Systems) is a very successful European course that provides training for PhD students, postdoctoral and senior scientists from European and non-European universities and laboratories, in the field of Neutron and Synchrotron Radiation for condensed matter studies (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Materials Science, Geosciences, Industrial applications).
In July 2010, for the first time, at the occasion of its 20th anniversary, this school will have a Latin American edition, co-organized and co-funded by European and Brazilian institutions. This edition will be held at the campus of the Brazilian Synchrotron Light Laboratory (LNLS) in Campinas, Brazil.
In this 3 week course, the first week will be dedicated to lectures covering some of the basic concepts of synchrotron radiation research on condensed matter. During this week the participants will also have the opportunity to present a poster about their thesis or research topic. The second week will have experiment preparation lectures, hands-on experiments and data analysis tutorials. The last week will be dedicated to an overview of some of the recent advances in synchrotron radiation research. All practicals will take place at the LNLS beamlines.
Programme (main lines)
1st week – Basics concepts
2nd week – Experiment preparation lectures, hands-on experiments and data analysis tutorials
3rd week – Recent advances on advanced topics
